My Story

Erick was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico in 1981, making him the oldest member of the Liquid Spiral family; but don’t take him for a weak, old man.

Music has always fascinated Erick. He started learning about music from a young age while attending church and being exposed to the Afro-Caribbean music that is the heart of Puerto Rico.

As a young kid in the early 90s, he learned how to play percussion such as congas, bongos, timbales, and some drums. He believes that learning those instruments has played a great advantage at learning about “staying in the pocket” while collaborating with other musicians.

In 1996 he moved back to Puerto Rico after living in the US for 6 years. While attending high school, he attempted to get back to playing saxophone which he had learned 2 years prior, but was unable to because of the inability to buy his own saxophone. The school administration did advice him that even though he couldn’t afford a saxophone, certain classes, such as contrabass, had instruments he could use. So that was his introduction to the instrument that would become his primary instrument to this day.

In 1999, Erick decided to enlist in the US Marine Corps and served as a Marine for 8 years. He traveled to over 20 countries. He got to appreciate the World that surrounds us and discovered that there is always one thing that unites human beings despite the language barrier: Music.

Fast forward to 2012. Erick met Angello in passing while attending Valencia College in the Music Program. In 2014 Angello contacted him to ask if he would be interested in auditioning to join the band; he accepted. 8 years laters, he still the old man, but the youngest at heart.
